We invite applications for the 2026-2027  Research Management and Faculty Track Program, a unique initiative designed to prepare Postdoctoral Fellows for academic careers as Principal Investigators or roles in research operations and management. Postdoctoral Fellows participating in this program will benefit from enhancing their understanding of faculty roles and the skills required to secure these positions, while increasing their opportunities to be immersed in the research enterprise (project, research, fiscal and human resources management). This program is a joint initiative of four FRQS-funded McGill affiliated centres (Lady Davis Institute, McGill University Health Center, the Douglas Research Centre and the Centre de Recherche en Biologie Structurale) supported by the provincial government through the FRQS.

Outline of training program:

Sixteen Postdoctoral Fellows in biomedical research, in the area of Montreal, will be admitted through a competitive review process to the Research Management and Faculty Track Program and will be exposed to diverse training activities over the course of 12 months. After the successful completion of the two cohorts, the third cohort will begin in November 2026. The program will include five major themes: (1) mentorship; (2) research and project management; (3) preparing for a faculty job search; (4) funding your research (5) research commercialization. Selected Postdoctoral Fellows will have the opportunity to participate in seminars, panels, workshops, discussions and mentorship activities focused on developing the skills to devise strong research and teaching statements for academic job applications. Participants will also attend funding and grant writing workshops detailing how to prepare a solid grant application for the major Canadian funding agencies. In addition, participants will attend an intensive research leadership and laboratory management training courses led by a certified leadership enterprise that will provide tools, techniques and insight tailored specifically to the laboratory/research setting for the management of teams, good communication, healthy resolution of conflict and the management of workloads and responsibilities.
