Precision Medicine Career Insights and Discovery Program
The Future in Focus Precision Medicine Career Insight and Discovery Program is organized by the Research Institute of the McGill University Health Centre (RI-MUHC), the Desjardins Centre for Advanced Training (DCAT) of the RI-MUHC, and the TREMPLIN McGill-Affiliated Consortium, with support from the Precision Medicine Training Program Committee.
The program provides specialized learning and practical insights to help graduate students and postdoctoral fellows prepare for a wide variety of career paths, including roles in industry research and development (R&D), medical and scientific affairs, entrepreneurship, and healthcare. Participants will discover how they can make a meaningful impact in this rapidly growing sector of the life sciences.
Each year, a select cohort is admitted through a competitive review process.
The program consists of eight online modules, which include expert-led sessions, interactive discussions, and case studies. These case studies focus on a fictional scenario to explore how precision medicine affects various disciplines.
Case 1: The Journey of a New Precision Medicine Drug to the Market
By Dr. Amélie Bourdiec, Alice Nam, Dr. Neera Sriskandarajah, and Dr. Patricia Tonin
This activity focuses on a fictional case that tracks the journey of a precision medicine drug from its discovery to its eventual market access. Participants will explore real-world roles, decisions, and challenges that arise during clinical trials, regulatory approval, and the process of data-driven innovation.
Case 2: Perspectives from the Path to MedTech Innovation
By Dr. Emily Bell, Olivia Vaikla, and Zhengrui Chen
This activity follows the fictional journey of a medical device from its initial innovation to its commercialization. Participants will explore a wide range of roles within the innovation sector, including project management, venture capital analysis, medical writing, and technology transfer
