IDIGH Trainees Gather to Discuss Career Paths

Congratulations to Dr. Ciro Picirrillo , Dr. Alexandra De Pokomandy and Dr. Eric Beliveau from the Research Institute of MUHC, recipient of a $2,000 Tremplin Ambassador Award to support Shaping Your Future: A Retreat for IDIGH Students  — a one-day event, that assembles IDIGH trainees to explore diverse career paths and make informed decisions about their futures. The retreat offered a unique opportunity to develop essential professional skills and explore career options beyond academia, including industry and clinical research. The retreat’s content was carefully shaped by a recent student survey, ensuring the workshops directly address the community’s expressed needs and define the retreat’s specific objectives.

Added Value : Combining interactive sessions, networking, and collaborative learning with firsthand career insights from speakers at the “Shaping Your Future” retreat, effectively raising awareness of diverse professional pathways.

❝ The award was instrumental in organizing the “Shaping Your Future” retreat. The Tremplin Award directly enabled the program to secure the venue and expert speakers, provide necessary materials, and ensure a seamless and enriching experience for all participants. Specifically, the funding allowed them to bring in Adoc Talent Management to provide specialized workshop training. A panel of students from the Institute discussed training opportunities they had taken advantage of, including those through Tremplin and DCAT. Skill development was a key focus, with workshops on various strategies for finding and applying for a job, including how to create a polished LinkedIn profile, led by Adoc Talent Management.
The networking lunch and cocktail reception with professionals from various sectors provided valuable opportunities for trainees to build connections and expand their professional networks, which is essential for career advancement. Furthermore, Leah Dolgoy’s presentation on imposter syndrome during the job search addressed a common challenge faced by many trainees, providing them with strategies and tools to overcome feelings of self-doubt and build confidence. By addressing this issue, the retreat fostered a supportive and inclusive environment, strengthening trainees’ sense of community and promoting their self-development.

❝The award has served as a mark of excellence, signaling to current and potential future trainees that the IDIGH program is committed to providing high-quality Career development support. By demonstrating the value and impact of specialized career development initiatives, the award has encouraged the program and its trainee committee to prioritize and invest in CPD activities in the future.
