Congratulations to Dr Abhinav Sharma and George Perlman from the Research Institute of MUHC, recipient of a $2,000 Tremplin Ambassador Award to join the Stanford School of Engineering’s online Machine Learning course XCS2293 — a training program aimed at developing research skills including artificial intelligence and programming, and empowering trainees in self-development and sense of community.
Added Value : Sustaining trainee in acquiring AI and programming skills .
❝ The award enabled George to explore a field that was previously outside his usual area of expertise, broadening his knowledge and perspective. Machine learning is a skill in high demand in clinical research and will be a useful tool in his toolkit following his PhD. The trainee, George Perlman, was able to connect with other students from various countries and academic backgrounds during the course. He received exposure to the various applications of machine learning in healthcare and beyond.
He was able to immediately apply the skills obtained in the course to his research. George submitted a machine learning analysis of in-house data to the Maurice McGregor Cardiovascular Research Day, an annual conference held at the Research Institute of the McGill University Health Centre. He is currently collaborating with other team members with machine learning expertise on other applications as well. The course has opened doors for George to engage in novel collaborations ! ❞
❝The course provided invaluable exposure to the fundamentals of a field that I plan to use to further biomedical research. It also opened doors to collaborating with intelligent researchers at my host institution that would have been challenging without the skills I gained.❞ George
